Safe and sound

Nothing like a narrowly missed natural disaster to generate a bit o’ activity on this thing. 😉

Just to be safe we headed North to Dallas before Rita made its appearance (and lucked out with a mere 12 hour trip – some folks never made it out of Houston due to the traffic) and it looks like the homestead is none the worse for wear. Can’t say as much for the contents of our fridge and freezer though. No power since Saturday at 1AM so it looks like we’ll be defrosting the deep freeze whether we wanted to or not.

Oh well, better than the alternative, right? 😀

PureText

So, if you’re a piece of software with more than one word in your name and a space between those words, does that make you uncool? If so, then I’ve got another cool piece of software to share with you: PureText.

Here’s the situation – you’re copying stuff from a website, or an email, or whatever to paste into another document. Unfortunately, whenever you try and paste it into the program of your choice, it comes complete with a lot of formatting garbage you really coud do without. Enter PureText. This little app lives in your system tray and allows you to paste only the text (sans formatting) that you’ve copied with a simple click. It’s just that easy! You can even set it up to use a keyboard shortcut (I use windows-v) rather than clicking on the icon to get PureText to do its thing.

Best of all – yep, you guessed it – it’s free. Enjoy!

SpaceMonger

I’ve been meaning to do something like this for a long time, so let’s see if I can keep up with it. Basically, this is just a way for me to share any cool “techie” (geeky, whatever ;)) stuff I run across.

First up to bat: SpaceMonger

Ever wonder where all your disk space has gone? This is a great way to find out. SpaceMonger shows you an intuitive (and colorful) view of how all your disk space if being used – or mis-used. Not only that, it’s free! And as we all know, free doesn’t suck. 😀

Well I’ll be a Maggie’s Uncle

I’m please to report that my older brother Barry and his wife Pam are the proud parents of a bouncing baby girl. Maggie made her grand entrance around 3AM this morning, and mother and child are doing great. Congratulations!!! 😀

Yeah, as usual, I’ve been remiss in keeping this thing up to date. Best of intentions, and all that rubbish… While I’m here, a quick update on McKenna:

About a month or so after turning 1, McKenna decided to start walking and hasn’t really stopped since. Jean and I are getting even more exercise than usual, and McKenna is enjoying the fact that she’s so important now that she merits her very own entourage. 😉 Baron (our dog) has learned that McKenna’s fingers taste very good and he figures a little well intentioned (though not always gentle) petting from her is worth the risk. While on our trip to NC over the holidays McKenna took her self-assigned duty as “not-so-official greeter” very seriously, saying “hi” to everyone getting on the plane and waving. Too cute.

Happy Birthday McKenna!

Today McKenna turns 1 year old! 😀 Hard to believe that it’s already been a year since she entered our lives…

Believe it or not, McKenna didn’t dive into her cake head first – as a matter of fact she worked to avoid having any cake at all. What’s up with that?! Gotta love the irony: parents trying to get their kid to eat sweets and them refusing. I’m sure it won’t be long till that’s no longer an “issue”. 😉
